Investment planning is all about making the money that you have saved work as hard as possible for you.
The foundation of any investment plan is to make sure that you have adequate funds available in cash or readily-realisable investments. Typically, you need a minimum of 3 months expenditure set aside, but many people in retirement prefer to have up to a year’s worth of expenditure easily accessible. This means that they are able to meet any unexpected costs, and that they do not have to liquidate longer-term investments at the wrong time.
We then work with clients using our cashflow forecasting software to establish how much can be tied up foot the longer-term and which investments they would feel most comfortable with.
Using the resources available to us, we then develop an investment proposition for you which reflects your requirements, and discuss this with you to obtain your views. If you are happy with what we have recommended then we implement your investments using the most cost-effective and flexible vehicles.
Levels and bases of reliefs from taxation are subject to change and their value depends on the individual circumstances of the investor. We recommend that the investor seeks professional advice on personal taxation matters.
Is investment tax a thing?
There is no point in having an investment that performs really well, only to fund that the returns are taxed at your highest marginal rate of income tax.
Many people are unaware that they also have an annual Capital Gains Tax Allowance, that enables them to generate tax free returns on an ongoing basis. It is also possible to invest up to £20,000 each tax year in Individual Savings Accounts (ISA). By using these allowances and other financial planning techniques, it is often possible to generate significant gains without a tax liability.
We are experts in using all of the allowances available to you, to make sure that your investments work as hard for you as possible.
