A week in the life of…Work Experience

In August 2023 we welcomed Theo into the offices to do a week of work experience with us. He spent the week shadowing various people around the business and learning how day-to-day life is in a busy office. Let’s see what he got up to while he was with us…

Embarking on my week of work experience in financial services at Foresight has been an experience beyond my expectations. Over the past week, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring the intricate world of finance, learning from experts in the field, and gaining hands-on exposure to various aspects of the industry. Here are the highlights of my week.

My first day kicked off with an in-depth orientation to the complex world of Foresight Wealth Strategists and the financial markets. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, I have gained a clear understanding of how global markets function, the factors influencing their movements, and the role of various financial instruments. Learning about stocks, bonds, commodities, and derivatives left me with a sense of admiration for the interconnectedness of the financial world.

As the week progressed, I met and spent time with the wider team and found myself immersed in data analysis techniques that are the backbone of informed decision-making in financial services. Hands-on sessions with analytical tools gave me valuable insights into interpreting market trends, evaluating risk, and identifying investment opportunities. Crunching numbers and deciphering patterns proved to be both intellectually stimulating and immensely rewarding.

One of the key takeaways from my time so far has been the importance of risk management and compliance in the financial sector. I spent a day shadowing both the Client Managers and the Advisers, witnessing firsthand how they assess, mitigate, and prepare for various types of risks. I now have a much better understanding of how the compliance regulations underscored the industry’s commitment to maintaining integrity and safeguarding clients interests.

As I wrap up this whirlwind week of my work experience, I’m grateful or the unique learning opportunities and experiences that I’ve been fortunate enough to encounter. From understanding the details of financial markets to witnessing the mixture of finance and technology, each day has contributed to my growth as a future finance professional. This glimpse into my week merely scratches the surface of the multifaceted world of financial services and I look forward to exploring this further as a career path.
