Mark Hughes - Charity Bike Ride

Mark Hughes helps to raise over £8,000 for local charity

On the 13th July 2016 tragically Dave Holman lost his life in a road traffic accident he was only 38 he was a loving son, brother, Uncle and great friend to many and is missed beyond measure.

Every year since Dave passed away his friends have organised what has become “The Dave Holman Challenge” raising much needed funds for Tiny Steps which is a local charity in Davenham created by two wonderful people Martin and Laura Clifton. After their daughter was born with west syndrome and severe learning difficulties, they very quickly discovered that services and support for families like theirs was non existent so their aim is to provide a sensory centre and social cafe for children and young people with additional needs and their families in the Northwich and Winsford area.

It is very hard to find activities that are accessible and enjoyable for families this situation. Their plan is to change this by providing this service within the local community.

Tiny steps is a non-profit making charity run by volunteers and is heavily reliant on donations.

Mark says:
“I got involved with the charity ride as we have become friends with Dave’s sister and brother in law over the last few years as their daughter is best friend with my daughter. I haven’t done a challenge for a number of years and I thought the time was right to get my bike out and raise some money for charity.

The bike ride took place on Saturday 15th June – starting in Moulton and taking in the Cheshire countryside.

The first 40 miles there was lots of laughter with people enjoying the ride.

At 40 miles this all changed as the hills got steeper and cramp set in! We battled on with cramp and the hills and finally got back to Moulton.

All in it was a fantastic experience and has relighted my interest in cycling, but more importantly we raised over £8k for charity”.
